Why We Pray Before We Play

If you visit Kingdom Heritage Academy, one of the first things you may notice is that, from time to time, we begin or end a session with a short prayer. For some families, this will feel familiar. For others, it may be something completely new.

Naturally, parents sometimes ask why we do it.

The answer is quite simple. Prayer is not a performance or a requirement. It is an expression of who we are.

Kingdom Heritage Academy was founded on the belief that football can be a powerful tool for developing young people—not only as players, but as people. Our Christian faith shapes the way we coach, encourage and care for every child who joins us, and prayer is one of the ways we acknowledge that everything we have, including the opportunity to play football together, is a gift.

For us, faith is not something separate from football. It influences the culture we are trying to create every time children step onto the pitch.

Football Is Still the Focus

Let's be clear about one thing: when children come to Kingdom Heritage Academy, they come to play football.

Every session is carefully planned to help them improve their technical ability, confidence, game understanding and enjoyment of the sport. We want children to leave as better footballers than when they arrived.

Prayer doesn't replace coaching, and it certainly doesn't replace hard work.

Children still train, compete, learn new skills, solve problems and challenge themselves every week. Our commitment to providing high-quality football coaching remains at the heart of everything we do.

Rather, prayer helps remind us that success is about more than the final score. It encourages us to approach football with gratitude, humility and respect—for the game, for one another and for the opportunities we've been given.

Creating the Right Environment

Every parent wants their child to enjoy football in an environment where they feel safe, encouraged and valued.

One question we are often asked is whether families need to be Christians to attend Kingdom Heritage Academy.

The answer is simple: absolutely not.

Our academy is open to every child and every family, regardless of their faith, background or previous football experience.

No child is expected to pray, no family is expected to share our beliefs and no one will ever be treated differently because of their faith or worldview.

What we do hope is that every family experiences the culture our faith inspires—a culture of kindness, encouragement, respect, humility and genuine care for one another.

Those values are universal, and they shape the environment we work hard to create every week.

More Than Words

Prayer is important, but we believe actions matter even more.

Children notice how adults behave.

They notice whether coaches are patient when someone makes a mistake.

They notice whether teammates encourage one another after conceding a goal.

They notice whether success is celebrated with humility and whether disappointment is handled with grace.

These everyday moments speak far louder than any words.

Our aim is that the values we talk about are consistently reflected in the way we coach, communicate and build relationships.
